Reuters reported that OpenAI is preparing to release its own AI‑powered web browser as part of a push to challenge Google Chrome, integrating generative AI to summarize pages, plan trips and handle tasks such as booking travel. Meanwhile, Perplexity AI, backed by Nvidia, is in discussions with smartphone makers to pre‑install its Comet browser; CEO Aravind Srinivas said the goal is to reach “tens to hundreds of millions” of users after desktop beta testing. Comet integrates Perplexity’s AI to answer questions based on personal data like emails and calendars.
Meta Platforms appointed Shengjia Zhao, a co‑creator of ChatGPT and former OpenAI researcher, as chief scientist of its new Superintelligence Lab. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Zhao will set the research agenda and scientific direction for the lab, which aims to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) and open‑source the results. Zhao joins other former OpenAI researchers in what analysts call a talent “arms race” between Meta and its rivals.
